How to make an Aviation Cocktail

 

This is a Classic aviation Cocktail that is made with gin, maraschino liqueur, creme de Violette and lemon juice. 

Some of the recipes leave out the creme de Violette and served straight up in a cocktail glass to a martini glass. But the aviation cocktail recipe, I am posting is a classic aviation cocktail.

Aviation Cocktail History:

The Aviation Cocktail was invented in the 20th century, by a head bartender Hugo Ensslin in Hotel Wallick in New York, USA. But the first published recipe for the drink appeared in Enssin's 1916 recipes for the mixed drinks.

What is an Aviation Cocktail:

Aviation Cocktail is a classic cocktail made using gin, maraschino liqueur, creme de Violette and lemon juice. There are many aviation cocktail variations, where they leave out creme de Violette.

And people who don't like gin can also make aviation cocktail with vodka, It can be known as one of the aviation cocktail variation.

Aviation Cocktail Ingredients:

  • Gin - 1 1/2 oz (45 ml)
  • Lemon Juice - 1/2 oz (15 ml)
  • Maraschino Liqueur - 1/2 oz (15 ml)
  • Creme de Violette - 1 bar spoon (approx 5 ml)

Glassware: Martini Glass or a cocktail Glass.

Method: Shaken.

Shaking is a method of making a cocktail. To make this drink Simple add all aviation cocktail ingredients (gin, lemon juice, maraschino liqueur and creme de Violette) into the shaker along with ice cubes and shake it vigorously for 8 to 10 sec until the shaker gets chilled.

Strain the drink without ice into the pre-chilled cocktail glass or martini glass. Serve chilled aviation cocktail right away, as it is a stem glass, it is preferred to finish the drink faster.

Garnish: Simply drop a maraschino cheery into the aviation cocktail.
